Group Sex...

Formed in Los Angeles in 1979 by former Black Flag vocalist, Keith Morris and Red Kross guitarist, Greg Hetson, Circle Jerks influence continues to this day. Alongside Black Flag and The Dead Kennedys they were at the very heart of the Hardcore scene in the U.S. of A in the early 80's. Their debut album, Group Sex, makes The Ramones seem slow paced weighing in at just sixteen minutes long, but what a sixteen minutes. Frenetic, funny, fast and one of the essential Hardcore albums, there is not a minute wasted, which is just as well with only sixteen of them to listen to. Every track is outstanding, they are one of the great punk bands and Group Sex is their best album. George in a recent post mentioned how The Dead Kennedys make you smile while listening to them and the same could certainly apply to Circle Jerks.

Today's post features the shortest and longest tracks from the album, with the shortest coming in at a mere 27 seconds and the longest at a full 1 minute and 35 seconds...I might also get a few new people visiting Spools tonight for the first time due to the title of today's post, so sorry to disappoint you if that is the case.

  1. I've just disturbed the peaceful countryside by listening to these two. The larger dog was so impressed he gave his genitals a thorough examination!

  3. One of my favorite moments from these guys was as the house band in Repo Man. They do a lounge version of When the Shit Hits the Fan... shoo-bi-de-doo-wop-say-what-yeah!
