More New Music...

If I don't watch out I'll start getting a reputation for posting new music here on Spools Paradise !! As most of the music on the blog is music that I grew up with, I thought I would make a concerted effort to look forward more this year and post more new music...

Revamping 60s girl-group pop for the modern age Madrid's The Deers are about as lo-fi as you can get. Similiar to bands like The Shop Assistants, there is something delightfully amateurish about them that makes them all the more appealing to these ears. Formed in 2013, as far as I know they have only released two singles to date but their harsh melodies and heartfelt lyrics could propel them into the spotlight this year. In an article in The Guardian last year it was suggested that Deers would  have been a more fitting final blowout for Phil Spector's final production job rather than ending with a whimper when he produced Starsailor. I have a feeling Spector would have enjoyed working with this Madrid four piece, but sadly we will never know...

  4. New Year, New Spools !! I am going to try and make a concerted effort to post more new stuff this year. There will still be plenty of "old skool" tunes, but mixed with more of what the kids are listening to. Deers do remind me of a lot of the bands I grew up listening to, like The Slits, Shop Assistants etc. I do like that description of them as lo-fi wailing George....

  5. These are defo getting 2015 off to a good start Scott. There's bits of Shop Assts, Claire Grogan, Voice of Beehive, etc. There's a 5min live one on Y/Tube called "Warning Curling", I think, which is like 'Sister Ray' with a kazoo! Nice one.
