Some Sunday Soul...
Not sure if this has appeared in the past over at George's place in one any of his excellent Gospel Sunday postings as this could conceivably fit into both a Soul or gospel posting. The Sweet Inspirations were formed, after many personnel changes, by Cissy Houston in the mid 60's, with one of their first jobs being to provide backing vocals on karaoke favourite Brown Eyed Girl (also the only track I have ever sung at a karaoke, but that is a whole different story!). 1967 saw them record for themselves for the first time when their debut album was released on Atlantic Records. In the late 60's they started touring extensively with Elvis, both as his support act and as part of his backing band, but they should be best remembered for the quality of the material they released in their own right, including today's track from the wonderful songwriting team of Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham.

A fine song, Scott, that has not featured on a certain gospel slot.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear the karaoke story some time, Scott!
ReplyDeleteIt's not a pretty story C, but maybe one day. Let's just say, for now, that singing in tune is not one of my strong points :)
