Home To Stay...
Known to most for his 1969 hit, Take A Letter Maria, R.B. Greaves only released one album in his much too short career. Blessed with a fantastic soul voice, that just oozes class, vocally he is similiar in style to his rather more famous uncle, Sam Cooke. His self titled album did not follow the huge success of Take A Letter Maria and, as is always the way, he was unceremoniously dumped by his record label. Sadly I don't own a physical copy of the album, but did purchase a download recently and can't stop listening to it. There is a passion in his vocal that is just irresistible, none more so than on the stunning ballad about a soldier's final homecoming, Home To Stay.

First song listened to today, Scott, and unless I pull out that Red Hot Chilli Peppers album I don;t think I'll hear anything better. Fantastic song.
ReplyDeleteHopefully that Chilli's album will remain in its sleeve George, where it belongs.
DeleteVery good indeed Scott - a pity he did not release too many more
ReplyDeleteDon't know why he didn't release any more. Pity, as he has a great soul voice.
