A Dancehall Classic...

1984 was quite a stellar year for reggae tunes crossing over to the mainstream with the likes of Smiley Culture and Tippa Irie hitting the upper parts of the charts. I have posted before about my visits to a reggae shop that used to be in Glasgow called Ital Riddims where I would pick up whatever new releases were out that week. Can't remember if today's track was picked up there or not, but can't think where else I would have got it from...some people may recognise it from SL2's rave anthem that sampled it, but here is the original dancehall classic from Jah Screechy from 1984...

  1. Wasn't aware of that shop - more's the pity

  2. From memory it was roughly on the corner of Sauchiehall Street and Buchanan Street, roughly where The Concert Hall is now. I started going in when I was in town with my parents when I was in my early teens, but they had no idea where I was off to. The guys that worked there really knew there stuff and would always recommend new stuff. I don't think as a scrawny, thirteen year old boy that I was their typical customer but they kinda got used to me going in most weeks.
