Just A Love Song...
On this day in 1977 the first night of a UK tour featuring Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, Cherry Vanilla and The Police kicked off at the Roxy Club. Johnny Thunders is responsible for two of my all time favourite songs in Born To Lose and You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory. There's always been fevered debate about what Johnny was singing about with many thinking it was about his heroin addiction. It may have been but I like to think it is quite simply a stunning song about missing someone you love, something all of us can relate to. To me it says that your memories will always be with you but you can't live your life looking back all the time at what might have been.Whatever Johnny was singing about about only he knows but what he left us with was a classic by anyone's standards.

It is indeed a masterpiece Swede. Did not know that it was Peter Perrett on backing vocals. Someone else who has produced a materpiece....
ReplyDeleteCC - was not aware of the Giant Sand version, will have a listen later tonight. Having a rare night of just listening to music tonight, checking out bands that have been blogged about recently...
I have a Cherry Vanilla album which I'll have to resurrect my Albums I haven't listened to in over 30 years series and post whenever I can pluck up the courage
ReplyDeleteHave a feeling that a lot of her stuff may not have dated too well but was listening to The Punk earlier tonight and it still sounded great..
ReplyDeleteScott, as CC says you really should listen to that Giant Sand version, it is brilliant
ReplyDeleteJust this moment listened to it, no idea why this had passed me by 'til now. Great cover, Pete Wylie also does a really good version of it...
ReplyDeleteI love this song.
