Living On A Reservation...

A few weeks back a good friend managed to get hold of two guest passes to Status Quo's gig at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall. Well sort of. The passes came courtesy of the support act, the wonderful Terry and Gerry, and were for both acts but we only stayed to watch the UK's finest skiffle band. Apparently hand picked for the support act by The Quo themselves, it turned out to be a totally inspired choice. Glasgow audiences aren't always the easiest to win over, but Terry and Gerry had them eating out the palm of their hands by the end of the first number. By the end of their too short set they had bagged themselves a whole new set of fans, most of whom may not even have known who they were beforehand. Although they were understandably nervous, it was easy to hear why Peel was such a big fan of them with such great tunes as Clothes Shop and Reservation taking centre stage in what was a hugely entertaining and lively set. You could sense from the off how excited they were to be there and how much they were enjoying performing again. Although they only released one album and a handful of singles they still hold a special place in many people's hearts, not least mine. This was the first time I had seen them live, but hopefully they will play another gig soon in Glasgow. Be great to them play somewhere like King Tut's or Stereo. C'mon lads, how about another show in one of your favourite cities ?

  1. Haven't heard this in so long. Those Birmingham boys sure had a lot of Everly in 'em. Love it.

  3. Good grief! I haven't heard this since 1986, but, needless to say, remembered most of the words!

  4. I am insanely jealous that you saw Terry and Gerry! I saw them 31 years ago in London, great great concert. Any new material? As The Swede says, I too can remember a lot of the lyrics to this one

  5. Brian - I have a feeling there may have been a few Everly Bros records in their collection. Listened to the album this afternoon and it still sounds really fresh and fun
CC - think you may be right there. I didn't even get a call about going until a few hours before the gig, which somehow made it even more special
Swede - think me and Nell were the only two singing all the words at the gig, amazing that we remembered them but once they started playing it all came flooding back
George - sadly no new material. Managed to grab a quick chat with them afterwards and they did say more gigs might be on the cards. Not sure if they will manage to Portugal right enough...

  6. Jealous indeed!! 'Wait Until You're Older' will always be amongst my Top 10 tunes ever! Strange though that Status Quo chose them to Support, then again I didn't even know that Status Quo were still alive these days ...

    1. Hi Dirk, it did seem an odd choice but worked somehow. Apparently personally chosen by The Quo after seeing them perform in a club

    1. Wasn't at the time Jamie, but kinda wish now that we had stayed to see them. Might have been ok as I think it was an acoustic set they were doing.
